eToro Review

eToro isn't really a crypto exchange; it's a multi-asset brokerage (NASDAQ: ETOR since 2025) where crypto sits beside stocks, ETFs, and commodities in one account. For the large audience that wants Bitcoin and Apple shares in the same app with the same login, nothing else does it as smoothly.

Its signature is social: CopyTrader mirrors the moves of vetted top investors automatically, and Smart Portfolios bundle themed baskets (including crypto strategies). It's a genuinely useful learning scaffold for newcomers, with the standard caveat that past performance copies forward losses just as faithfully.

Pricing is simple rather than cheap: deposits are free (cards, PayPal, bank transfer), and crypto trades cost a flat 1% each way plus FX conversion (typically 0.5-1.5%) for non-USD deposits since accounts run in dollars. That undercuts 2-4% card buys but is 5-10× exchange-rate trading, the cost of one-app convenience.

Regulation is broad (FCA, CySEC for EU/MiCA coverage, ASIC, plus US state coverage for crypto), and 35M+ registered users make it one of the most mainstream venues anywhere. Note that on-chain withdrawals to self-custody are supported only for some assets in some regions via the eToro Money wallet. Check before buying if self-custody is the goal; 'not your keys' applies more here than at pure exchanges.

What we liked

  • Crypto + stocks + ETFs in one regulated app
  • CopyTrader: mirror experienced investors automatically
  • Free deposits incl. PayPal; flat transparent 1% crypto fee
  • FCA/CySEC/ASIC regulated; NASDAQ-listed

What to watch

  • 1% each way is pricey versus exchange trading
  • USD-denominated accounts add FX fees for most users
  • Limited on-chain withdrawals; weak self-custody support

Our verdict

The right choice when crypto is one slice of a broader portfolio and you value one clean, regulated app over the last basis point of fees. Active traders and self-custody purists should use a real exchange.

eToro FAQ

Yes for convenience: free deposits (incl. PayPal), a flat 1% fee, and crypto beside stocks in one regulated app. Pure exchanges are cheaper for frequent trading and better for self-custody withdrawals.
